As Silex and the rest of the royal guards enjoyed a hearty lunch with Antiugus and Henricus, they wondered why Gobius and Cidivus had still not arrived. “Something is wrong,” Cedrus said. “I can feel it. Don’t you?”

“I will admit that there was something strange about that whole situation,” Silex answered. “I don’t know what could have been so urgent that Gobius needed to take care of it right away.”

“And the fact that Cidivus was somehow involved,” Cedrus said. “What could have happened?”

“I don’t know,” Ferox said. “And let’s not forget the bizarre conversation at the dinner table last night. Whatever was that all about?”

“I don’t think any of us will be able to figure that one out,” Tonitrus said. “It felt as though our king was speaking in riddles.”

As Tonitrus finished his statement, they heard the flapping of wings and a loud squawk from just outside the window of the throne room. “I wonder what that is,” Henricus said, as he rose from his seat and walked over to the window.

“Trouble! Trouble!” yelled a voice from outside.

“That voice,” Sceptrus said. “It sounds familiar, doesn’t it?”

“Yes, I believe I’ve heard it before,” Pugius said.

Soon all of them got up from their chairs and went over to investigate. As they looked out the window, they saw a large raven perched on the railing of the balcony. “Now I remember,” Silex said. “It is the raven we saw in the Tenebrae during the quest, the one that tantalized Og.”

Ferox laughed. “You remember that, big man, don’t you?” he said to Og.

“Yes, I remember,” Og replied. “But it isn’t exactly the fondest of memories.”

“Help! Help!” the raven cried.

“It is distressed over something,” Tonitrus said.

“Save the king! Save the king!” the raven then said.

“What is this all about?” Silex asked. “Is King Gobius in trouble?”

“Yes, yes!” exclaimed the raven. “Hurry back! Hurry back!”

Some of the men began retrieving their weapons as Silex continued to converse with the bird. “What has happened? Can you tell us?” Silex asked.

“They have arrested the king! They have arrested him!” answered the raven.

“Arrested him?” Ferox said in disbelief. “Whatever for?”

“It doesn’t matter,” Silex said. “We all sensed that something wasn’t quite right, and it appears that our suspicions were more than warranted. Get your weapons, men. It’s time to mount and ride!”

“I’m coming with you,” Antiugus said. “I have never seen a bird talk before, but if you believe it is telling the truth, then I must accompany you. If Gobius is in trouble, then I will be there to help.”

“The same goes for me,” Henricus said. “Consider me in.”

“Cidivus!” Cedrus suddenly exclaimed. “That snake! It was him…he led our king right into a trap. He betrayed him in some way that led to this.”

“Yes,” Tonitrus said. “We all heard our king talk about a traitor last night at supper. That would certainly make sense.”

“I’m going to find him, and I’m going to kill him,” Cedrus said as they all left the throne room and made their way down to the horses.
